We Are Committed to Low Carbon Footprint

"There can be no purpose more enspiriting than to begin the age of restoration, reweaving the wondrous diversity of life that still surrounds us."
Words to live by. E.O. Wilson

Our commitment to sustainable farming begins with our choice of product: Duck. Did you know that as compared with a majority of animals including chicken, duck farming is among the least carbon-intensive? It is one of the core reasons why we breed them.  Ducks have efficient feeding and growth rates which proceed a carbon footprint of 2.07kg CO2eq/kg, ranking them better than turkey, which have a carbon footprint of 2.13 (Source: shrinkthatfootprint.com).

When it comes to environmental consciousness, we are walking the talk as best we can.  As a start, we undertook the exercise of planting thousands of trees (including indigenous), on the barren land that we inherited.  And it was no simple task.  Our location in Mwingi is plagued by erratic rainfall that generally falls below 750 mm per annum, which made a simple task such as watering our seedlings, challenging.  But it was worth it.  Today, our trees serve not only as wind breakers and umbrellas for our foraging ducks but also a downstream destination for our sewage water.

Our land before trees. The winds blew; the dust flew.

Today, our trees are giant umbrellas that shelter for our birds from extreme heat

In the harshest conditions, we found the courage to persevere.

"It is the little things citizens do.  That's what will make the difference. My little thing is planting trees."
